    My lawn mower is sputtering.

Whats the deal? i changed the oil this morning, put in new gas, took out the spark plug and wiped it down (didn't replace). any ideas? it will cut grass but the sputtering has made it really "weak".

might want to take a look at the air filter

    what kind of mower ?

Craftsmen Briggs and Stratton 4.75 horsepower walk behind. Is that enough info? Not sure how to change the air filter, but will look it up. See what happens.

Usually the air filter is cylindrical or oval shaped and twists off.

On most Sears B&S models, it's on the left side (looking from in back of the mower towards the front), you should see a plastic cover with vents. Just snap it off, and the filter comes right out. Brush (and/or wash if you have time to dry it) the filter.

Found the air filter, and washed it out. Put it back in, works fine. Thanks for the input.

How often are you supposed to change plugs? And can you just clean the tips instead?

You can, but eventually the electrode wears down, increasing the gap.
