How long does the oak pollen last?

I have about 15 live oaks on my property (not big ones but you cannot put your hands around them touching your fingers...). And they are covered in the oak pollen little bugs. If I give the tree a good shake, the stuff comes falling off. I was hoping we would have a good rain this week to get them down.

Ok, I am looking to stain my deck in the next couple of weeks but won't with this $#@! up there. How long does the oak pollen stay in the trees, another 2 weeks or shorter?

seems like it's always about a month of hell. I love looking up as the wind blows and seeing the yellow clouds rolling across the sky.

I'd wait a while. Even after oak season is over, you still have the dead crunchy pollen flying around everywhere.

On a related note because this came up in conversation the other day. I know that the growths on the tree that cause the green dust and called catkins, but does anybody call them by another name? When I was little my grandparents called them "wrinklies" which is what I would call them if it didn't sound so damn ridiculous. Anybody else know them by that name or were my grandparents just old country bumpkins who made up their own words for $#@! they didn't know the actual name of?

Tassels? I call them flowers since that is what they are but pain in the ass also works. I am looking at drifts that have formed in the parking lot of my office building (and my gutters and drive way).

I'm waiting for them to all fall off to start planting flowers too. I don't want to put in fresh mulch only to have it covered in oak pollen... from a looks point of view.

Don't wait too long or you won't enjoy those flowers very long....

On another note.. I mowed to day for the first time this season and it turned into one enormous green cloud.

I raked all my leaves, then mulched 4 weeks ago, so no leaves would get in my nice looking mulched beds. Now, I get to watch them get covered in those pollen things. furk.

Same exact thing. I moved about 85 bags of mulch which are now totally covered in oak $#@!. I'm going to wait until it ends and then just cover it again with about 1 inch of mulch (prior job was about 4-5 inches).

I am dying today. I have year round allergies too, aside from about 6 weeks in winter. Today is bad though.

amaranthus/chenopodiae. Native Americans used it for food; I do too, sometimes. It's good in salads. It's hell on your nose. If you've got it in your yard, you can only get rid of it by pulling it up. It laughs its ass off at Round Up.

I always hated that guy that would say 'get shots' but I'm now that guy that got shots... And it's incredible. Even on the worst allergy days I maybe get slightly congested or sniffles.

I got a steroid shot last year during cedar season. I couldn't breathe or sleep. It is the only time I have done that.

I wish it was, I don't have a problem with mold. This is exactly like when I have cedar issues.

I've got multiple allergy apps, and a few of them claim trees are still high and grass "very high" or high. And I've seen pollen still in trees or on the ground in the neighborhood before the past few days.

I need to get retested for allergies. It's been a few decades. Maybe I can narrow it down to which trees need to accidentally catch fire in the neighborhood.

Yeah, people are definitely mowing the grass, when they get a chance between rains. $#@!, there's always something in the air around here.

This is probably it. We've got oaks, pecan trees, and some others spitting out pollen now or recently in the yards around us, and everybody has mowed their lawns this week after letting them get up there.

Pretty sure I've got a sinus infection now, so going in tomorrow to the doctor, and will probably get a referral and be retested for allergies.
